GENERAL REGULATIONS
1. INVITATION
FIDE, the International School Chess Union (I.S.C.U.) and the Olympic Sports Academy of Thessaloniki have
the honour of inviting all FIDE National Chess Federations and eligible players in the World Schools Rapid-
Blitz Chess Championships organised in Kavala, Greece from 13 June (arrivals) to 17 June
(departures).
2. PARTICIPATION – AGE LIMITS
2.1. Each National Federation or School Association or schools may enter an unlimited number of players in
each of the 12 age groups. In case that one group is less than 10 participants, then it will be merged with
the next age group category.
2.2. Entitled to participate are players (Boys & Girls) who shall not have reached the age:
Of 7, by 1st January 2014 (date of Birth – January 1st, 2007 and after) – Tournament Under 7;
Of 9, by 1st January 2014 (date of Birth – January 1st, 2005 and after) – Tournament Under 9;
Of 11, by 1st January 2014 (date of Birth– January 1st, 2003 and after) – Tournament Under 11;
Of 13, by 1st January 2014 (date of Birth – January 1st, 2001 and after) – Tournament Under 13;
Of 15, by 1st January 2014 (date of Birth – January 1st, 1999 and after) – Tournament Under 15;
Of 17, by 1st January 2014 (date of Birth – January 1st, 1997 and after) – Tournament Under 17;
2.3. Accommodation and travel expenses will be covered from the participants, federations, schools and their
Sponsors. Delegations of players must be accompanied at least by one adult (chief, coach or parent), who is
taking care about the travel details.
3. ENTRY - FEES
3.1. A registration fee per player:
15 euros per player for the Rapid Championship
10 euros per player for the Blitz Championship
4. REGISTRATION AND TRAVEL CONDITIONS
4.1 Entry forms must be sent from the National Federations or the players and returned to the Organizing Committee not later than Friday 2 May 2014. If the registration form is not forwarded by the Federation a copy must be sent to the National Federation.
4.2 The complete registration form must include the surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and passport number (for visa only purpose) of each player and each accompanying person. It must also include the name and telephone/e-mail/fax number of the Chief of Delegation.
4.3 The cost of bus transportation from Kavala airport (30 km) to the tournament hotels with return on the departure day is 40 EUR per person.
The cost of bus transportation from the Thesloniki International Airport (150 km) to the tournament hotels with return on the departure day is 70 EUR per person
4.4 At the time of registration by Friday 2 May 2014, the amount of 25 euros (registration) + 30% of the total accommodation cost + 40 euros transportation cost from Kavala Airport or 70 euros transportation cost from Thessaloniki (if required) must be transferred, free of bank charges, to the following bank account of the Organizing Committee for each participant or accompanying person. Rest of payments must be made upon arrival.

4.5. The foreign bank commissions must be paid by the sender. If not, the respective amount will be charged and should be paid in full before the end of the second round.
5. VENUE - ACCOMMODATION
5.1 Accommodation and board will be provided at Galaxy Hotel (4 star) and Lucy Hotel (5 stars). Playing Hall is the City Conference Hall in walking distance.
5.2 Every player is obliged to lodge at the official hotels. Every accompanying person that requests a visa from the Organizing Committee is obliged to lodge at the official hotels. Bookings are made only through the Organizing Committee (through registrations and bookings forms).
5.3 Hotel payments for all players and accompanying persons must be made 30% in advance as described in registration process and the rest upon arrival, the latest. Hotel payments must be paid in euros (EUR). No future payments of hotel bills will be accepted. Cancellations are not possible after Friday 16 May 2014.
5.4 Lodging for players, coaches and accompanying persons will cost per person for 3 and 4 nights (includes breakfast, lunch and dinner in buffet): For 11 nights or more nights add the charge of one or more nights.

6. COMPETITIONS
6.1 1st Individual World Schools Rapid Chess Championship
9 rounds played according to the Swiss System, 15 minutes+10 sec per player.
Categories: boys and girls under 7, 11, 13, 15, 17. In case that one group is less than 10 participants, then it will be merged with the next age group category.
Prizes: The first player in each category will award the title of “World Schools Rapid Chess Champion”
The three best players in each category win cups, medals and diplomas.
6.2 1st Individual World Schools Blitz Chess Championship
9 rounds played according to the Swiss System, 3 minutes + 2 sec per player.
Categories: boys and girls under 7, 11, 13, 15, 17. In case that one group is less than 10 participants, then it will be merged with the next age group category.
Prizes: The first player in each category will award the title of “World Schools Blitz Chess Champion”
The three best players in each category win cups, medals and diplomas.
6.3 Communication between players (the offer of draw) is forbidden until the 40th move has been played.
6.4 Rules are valid and the tournament will be FIDE rated

11. VISA INFORMATION
Teams or players needing visas are requested to contact the Organizing Committee before Friday 2 May 2014 and apply on time to Greek Authorities. The Organizing Committee will provide invitations for visas only after the necessary payments. The O.C. has no responsibility on late or not complete applications.
